About scanurl.net

scanurl.net publishes guides, a local URL inspector and dated reference data for reading links and URL warnings safely: how to read an address, what a report or warning can and cannot tell you, what happens when you submit a link to an online service, and where to ask for a review.

This site does not scan URLs

We do not scan, visit, resolve or rate addresses, and we never describe a URL as safe. There is no submission form and no verdict. The URL inspector reads the structure of an address inside your browser; what you paste is not sent to us or to anyone else.

Independent and new

This is a new publication under new ownership. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or a continuation of any previous operator or service at this domain. No earlier scan results, verdicts, reports or submitted addresses were kept, and none are republished. Old report addresses do not lead to a verdict about any URL.

How pages are made

Pages are drafted with AI assistance from standards, official documentation and providers’ own published policies, and checked with our own local tests. Each page’s Tested box names the browser or runtime, the version and the date, and lists what was not tested. The methodology and editorial policy set out the rules.

Review

We are adding independent review by a named security engineer. When a page has been reviewed, the reviewer’s name, credential and review date appear at the top of it.

Code, data and sponsors

Original code is MIT licensed; the bundled Public Suffix List keeps its Mozilla Public License 2.0. Our compilations and observations are licensed under CC BY 4.0; quoted provider text keeps its own rights. Some pages may carry a clearly labelled sponsor module after the main content; sponsors never affect answers, comparison rows, directory entries or tool output. See disclosure.
